….I won’t flatter myself into thinking ‘at long last’ is actually how my readers feel, but at any rate: here are photos from this past week at Mpala Research Centre. This first post will be a few pictures of the house I’ll be staying in while I’m here, a really gorgeous place located just a few miles from the research centre.
twenty-something PhD student at UC Santa Barbara; originally from the Greater Boston Area (including Cape Cod, Salem the witch town, and that really forested region south of NH); I aim to study the ecology of networks: how animals interact with each other and influence other environmental characteristics like soil health and plant communities, and how changes to one part of a network cascades throughout the system and make chains of indirect effects. I'm an artist, and a big goal of mine is to use art and science together in order to make both more accessible and educational in their combination. I think that science writing as an academic is important; but, I think that science writing for the public is imperative. I'm using this opportunity to write about my work and the work of other scientists, and to get better at communicating it to people effectively and in an interesting way. Thank you for reading!
